Becoming a billionaire from raising 'bau' ducks
Minh Huong Bau duck is a long-standing indigenous variety of duck in Minh Huong Commune, Ham Yen District. This is considered the most delicious duck breed in Tuyen Quang Province. Utilising the water source from Cham Chu stream, Pham Thi Van and her family in Hamlet 13, Minh Huong Commune, Ham Yen District has expanded a 'bau' duck farm with a total ducks of 3,000.
In addition to selling duck breeds and duck meat for small breeding establishments in the province, she regularly provides ducks for two restaurants in Hai Duong and Ha Giang province. With the selling price of VND100,000 - VND120,000 per kg, she earns about VND40 - VND50 million each month. In 2020, her farm had revenue of VND12 billion with a profit of approximately VND1 billion. Her duck farm has created jobs for 3 local workers with an average income of VND6 million per month.
Currently, Van is the director of Ham Yen 'Bau' Duck Cooperative. Her cooperative purchases, processes and consuming ducks for 12 households in the commune with a scale of over 10,000 ducks. Now, Minh Huong 'bau' duck has been sold widely both inside and outside the province. In 2020, Minh Huong 'bau' duck was recognised as a three-star OCOP product.
Billionaires in the countryside
The commercial fish farming model of Ban Van Quang in Hamlet 6, Minh Huong Commune, Ham Yen District is considered as a "successful start-up" model in the locality. His monogamous tilapia farming model with an area of over 2,000 m2 was divided into 6 ponds by him.
The success of his family in fish raising is having natural water source from Cham Chu stream. The clean water flowing continuously has contributed in creating fresh environment for fish alive. Averagely, his family harvests 5 -7 quintals of fish per litter, earning VND300 million per year.
Nguyen Van Hong's orange garden in Hamlet 10, Minh Huong Commune, Ham Yen District is irrigated by water source from Cham Chu stream.
Also exploiting water source from Cham Chu stream, Nguyen Van Hong in Hamlet 10, Minh Huong Commune, Ham Yen District has developed his a garden economic model. He shared that, to have the irrigation water system for his 5-hectare fruit tree garden (including V2 orange, sweet pomelo, green skin pomelo, and lemon), he installed water pipes flowing from Cham Chu stream. Thanks to clean water, his fruit tree garden is laden with fruits all year around.
Cham Chu stream flowing through Minh Huong Commune with 20 km length has supplied the abundant water source for agriclutural production in the locality. Up to now, the commune has 10,000 out of 2,3000 households developing economic models which utilises the water source from Cham Chu stream, earning income of VND100 million - VND1 billion.
This water source has created favourable conditions for the commune to form a 223-hectare commercial orange product area, 365-hectare specialised rice cultivation region as well as develop indigenous variety of Minh Huong duck.
