The natural forests are protected by the people in Cao Ngoi, Dong Loi commune (Son Duong).
Before 2016, deforestation in Dong Loi commune still occurred. Every day, local forest rangers had to patrol both day and night to prevent and handle cases of deforestation.
In 2017, the Cao Ngoi village community was established with 20 members patrolling at least once a week.
In addition, the whole village pledged not to destroy the forest and not to let anyone encroach on the forest. Any family that has work and wants to go into the forest to collect dry branches and firewood must report to the village chief, and only after the village community agrees can they enter the forest to collect.
With a convention to protect and preserve the forest, for many years, Cao Ngoi has not had a forest fire; no cases of violation of forest protection regulations have to be handled.
Preserving forests and forests is bringing practical benefits. Cao Ngoi people are allowed to go into the forest to collect Chinese jujube, Doi seeds, medicinal plants and dry branches for firewood.
Every year, the Cao Ngoi community receives VND95 million from the state's policy of assigning and protecting natural forests.
In 2023, 15 members of the forest protection community who are poor households in Cao Ngoi village will also receive rice subsidies for forest protection and development under sub-project 1, project 3, national target program for socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas, phase I: 2021 - 2025. The subsidy level for each person is 15 kg of rice per month, each year is subsidized for 8 months.
