Lo River’s giant devil catfish specialty attracts tourists

TQO - The giant devil catfish (ca chien) of Lo River has become a favourite dish of many people because of its delicious and nutritious meat.

A mature ca chien, a variety of catfish, can weigh up to 50 - 60 kg. It lives in deep, rocky areas with fast-flowing water. This fish has only a backbone without crushed bones. Its meat has a golden colour like turmeric.

Giant devil catfish’s meat is delicious and nutritious.

Due to the tasty meat of giant devil catfish, it is often processed into grilled, fried, hot-pot, and soup dishes by the local people of Tuyen Quang Province.

However, on hot summer days, giant devil catfish soup is the most popular dish for many people. The soup is not only easy to cook but also retains the fish’s freshness and deliciousness. The soup is usually served with vermicelli, scallions, herbs, dill, mushrooms, choysum, and banana flowers.

Giant devil catfish has now become a specialty at restaurants both inside and outside Tuyen Quang Province, attracting many diners.
