In the face of the complicated and unpredictable developments of infectious diseases, especially measles, at present, although the Ministry of Health has directed localities to drastically implement measures to prevent measles since the end of 2024, the Ministry of Health has issued a plan to prevent and control infectious diseases and a plan to implement a measles vaccination campaign, however, the measles situation remains high and is at risk of continuing to increase.
The Ministry of Health also said that the measles vaccination rate nationwide is still low, and community immunity has not reached the level to prevent the epidemic. There are provinces where the vaccination rate for infectious diseases with vaccines is only 40%, and the vaccination rate is also low. In particular, after the COVID-19 pandemic, there is a group of people who are "anti-vaccine", not taking their children to get vaccinated.
According to health experts, vaccination is the most effective measure to prevent measles. However, many people are still subjective, some even think that vaccinating or not vaccinating children is the same. In addition, there are groups in remote areas where access to vaccination is still difficult, and the rate of women giving birth at home in remote areas also has difficulty accessing vaccination for their children. These are the reasons why the vaccination rate for infectious diseases, including measles, in some localities is still low.
Therefore, the Ministry of Health requires localities to promptly issue a plan to implement vaccination for children. Proactively review the subjects of vaccination, purchase biological products and supplies to accompany vaccination activities; closely monitor the development of the epidemic and promptly report the situation. In addition, it is necessary to mobilize the participation of all levels and sectors, not just the health sector; at the same time, prepare facilities, equipment, and medical supplies, especially in high-risk areas, to immediately handle the epidemic.
