The establishment of the Dao ethnic cultural identity preservation clubs

TQO - Making up the majority of the 22 ethnic groups, the Dao people in Tuyen Quang Province have still preserved many unique traditional cultural identities.

The Dao community in the province has 9 branches, including Red Dao (Dai Ban), Dao Tien (Tieu Ban), Quan Trang, Quan Chet, Cooc Mun, Cooc Ngang, O Gang (Lo Gang, Thanh Phan), Thanh Y, Ao Dai (Dao Tuyen, Lan Tien, Binh Dau). The diversity of Dao branches has created a richness in thier cultural identity.

'Cap sac' ritual and Pao Dung singing of the Dao ethnic group as well as the decorative arts on traditional costumes of the Red Dao people have been recognised as national intangible cultural heritage. In addition, the Dao people also have rich cultural treasures such as their own language, writing - Nom Dao script, folk songs and dances, etc.

To date, Tuyen Quang Province has 23 clubs to preserve Dao ethnic culture with hundreds of members. They always research, collect, and promote their traditional cultural values, such as speech and writing. At the same time, they preserve rituals, including ancestor worship, embroidery and teach the folk dances, folk games, etc, for young generation.

In their own way, the clubs have aroused the passion for learning about Dao culture. Thereby, they have mobilised members to proactively preserve and promote their cultural features.
