Dao people preserve their heritage

TQO - As the majority of the 22 ethnic groups in Tuyen Quang Province, the Dao community has 3 national intangible cultural heritages: 'Cap sac' ritual, Pao Dung singing and decoration art in traditional costume of Red Dao people.

Women in Hamlet 1 Minh Tien, Minh Huong (Ham Yen) regularly practice singing Pao dung.

Truong Xuan Hao in Co Yeng Hamlet, Thanh Tuong Commune, Na Hang District said that, 'Cap Sac' ritual is an important ritual in life because it affirms the maturity of a man. When Dao men are granted 'Cap sac', they can teach, worship, and work as a shaman.

Along with 'Cap Sac' ritual, the heritage of Pao Dung singing and decoration art in traditional costume of Red Dao people are also preserved. Ly Thi Mai, head of the Women's Union in Na La Hamlet, Son Phu Commune (Na Hang) shared that the Red Dao people are conscious of preserving their costumes, voices and Pao Dung singing. Currently, women in the locality take advantage of their free time to practice singing Pao Dung at the hamlet's culture house. The preservation of embroidery craft is implemented in each household. Up to now, most of the Red Dao women in Na La Hamlet know how to embroider and complete their own traditional costumes.
