Banana cake of Tay people

TQO - On important holidays, the Tay people make banana cakes to offer to their ancestors and the deceased in order to express their piety and gratitude.

The main ingredients to make banana cakes are ripe bananas and glutinous flour. The bakers use a large knife to gently press the bananas to flatten them and dry them. When the dried bananas have shrunk and become flexible, the baker will pound them and mix them with glutinous rice flour to form a cake.

The filling is made of mung beans, mixed with sugar.

After wrapping the cake, the cakes are steamed until fragrant.

Banana cake has both the fragrant and greasy taste of mung bean paste, glutinous rice, and the sweet and sour taste of bananas.

In the past, the Tay people used to make the cakes to worship and serve the needs of the family during holidays. Today, many households sell banana cakes at homestays and Na Hang night markets to meet the needs of tourists.

If you have the opportunity to go to Na Hang or Lam Binh districts, do not forget to enjoy this traditional cake of the Tay people!
