The life of the H’mong people in Dong Bai

TQO - Dong Bai village, Tu Quan commune (Yen Son) is about 4 km from the center of the commune. In 2007, 23 H’mong households with 144 people in Thuy Loa commune (Na Hang) donated their land for the Tuyen Quang hydropower project to resettle in Dong Bai village.

The village currently has 128 households, 672 people with 6 ethnic groups: H’mong, Tay, Kinh, Dao, Cao Lan, and Muong.

The resettlement area of the H’mong people is located on the road side of Dong Bai village, most of them have permanent houses.

Head of Dong Bai village, Tu District commune Dang Van Thang  said that, in recent years, the Party Committee and commune authorities have always made great efforts to take care of people from housing support, health insurance; technical guidance on animal husbandry production, cultivation, construction of hygienic works, etc.

Currently, the H’mong people's economy in the village is mainly growing acacia, cassava and farming. Most people have televisions, motorbikes, and mobile phones.

The village's per capita income is VND3.5 million per person per month. The poverty rate is over 40%.

Along with solidarity to help each other in economic development, the H’mong people have always been conscious of preserving their language, costumes and rituals.
