Movement against plastic waste in Na Hang

TQO - Responding to the movement "Na Hang joins hands to fight plastic waste", local authorities and people have built and replicated many effective models in collecting, reusing, recycling, and treating waste.

Na Hang District has established 12 self-management models, 114 groups and groups of self-managing environmental sanitation in residential areas. Accordingly, 100% self-governing model builds regulations and maintains operations.

Many communes in the district have had creative ways to raise awareness of ethnic minorities in fighting plastic waste.  For examples, Son Phu Commune has built 6 concentrated waste incinerators in 6 villages where have high population density. Thuong Giap and Thuong Nong Commune have periodically cleaned and the main roads and collected garbage twice a month. Hong Thai Commune has included the content of environmental protection in the village's conventions to evaluate and rank emulation. Yen Hoa Commune has 856 households building biogas digesters, accounting for 74.6% of households in the whole commune.

Socio-political organisations have actively responded to the movement in association with emulation movements and activities. Currently, 101 out of 114 veteran organisations across the locality, and 316 their members have participated in self-management groups. Veteran associations of communes and townships have established 14 self-management groups for environmental protection. The associations in the hamlets of Na Kham and Na Reo, (Nang Kha Commune) has developed a model of  "Green - clean - beautiful fence".

The Youth Union of the district has launched the movement "Exchange bottles for school supplies", or "Exchange waste for green trees", etc. Thereby, it members exchanged 200 kg of plastic waste for 4,000 school supplies and planted 800 acacia trees at Na Hang High School. At the same time, the Women's Union of Na Hang District has directed to replicate 18 self-management models of waste classification, collection, transportation and treatment in 18 associations of Thanh Tuong Town and communes, as well as build 10 models of "Sharing love - protecting the environment" in 5 communes of Yen Hoa, Da Vi, Son Phu, Nang Kha, Thanh Tuong.

In the coming time, local authorities will continue to communicate and mobilise local people to raise awareness of environmental protection.
