Change from habit to awareness

TQO - Currently, many households still maintain the habit of using plastic bags in daily activities. At markets and retail stores, sellers still use plastic bags to store goods for customers. The harmful effects of plastic waste, including plastic bags, have been evaluated by global scientists, however, people's awareness has not changed.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the current pollution situation of plastic waste and plastic bags is very serious. The amount of plastic waste and plastic bags in Vietnam currently accounts for 8 to 12% of household solid waste. Statistics show that if an average of 10% of plastic waste and plastic bags in Vietnam were not reused but completely discarded, the amount of plastic waste could reach nearly 2.5 million tons/year. This seriously affects the environment and human health.

Plastic bags are extremely dangerous to human health. The harmful effects of plastic bags when burned will create dioxin and furan gas, these are two toxic gases that can cause poisoning, immunodeficiency, birth defects in children, and even cancer.

When plastic bags are released into the environment, they will seriously affect soil and water. They will change the physical properties of the soil, causing soil erosion, making the soil unable to retain water, nutrients, and nutrients. Prevents oxygen from passing through the soil, affecting plant growth.

Many businesses have actively implemented the reduction of non-degradable plastic bags and 100% replacement with biodegradable bags and environmental bags in business activities, especially in large supermarkets. Supermarkets have applied gift promotions for customers who come shopping with reusable bags such as plastic bags, cloth bags, and paper bags.

Vietnam is aiming to strive by 2025 to use 100% plastic bags and environmentally friendly packaging at shopping centers and supermarkets for daily life purposes to replace difficult plastic bags. decomposition; Gradually reduce the production and use of non-biodegradable plastic bags and single-use plastic products in daily life. After 2030, we will ban all, including public markets, the consumption of plastic bags. Consumers also need to change their habits to be properly aware of the harmful effects of plastic bags, and move towards not using plastic bags in daily life.
