Online fraud in Vietnam is increasing in sophistication and scale. The Department of Information Security, Ministry of Information and Communications, reported that in the first 9 months of 2024, it received more than 22,200 reports of online fraud sent by Internet users to the Vietnam Information Security Warning Portal, of which more than 80% of cases were related to property appropriation through digital fraud such as bank impersonation, e-wallet fraud, and investment fraud. In particular, 70% of fraud cases come from social networking platforms such as Zalo and Facebook.
According to information security experts, the information and data that attackers often target are: Full name, date of birth; Identification number of personal documents; Credit card information or debit card information; Contracts, business projects; Email address Mobile phone number; Login password; Home address, etc.
Online fraud increases insecurity, affecting socio-economic development. Online fraud is a worrying problem, requiring close coordination between management agencies, businesses and the community. Every citizen needs to be highly vigilant when operating in the digital environment to avoid fraud traps.
