Covering barns to ensure airtightness and cleanliness are the jobs that Thanh Cong Agro-Forestry Cooperative members (Chiem Hoa) always implement from the beginning of winter. In order to protect the livestock in the cold season, right from the beginning of winter, the members actively bought tarpaulin to cover the barn, regularly kept the livestock barn dry and prepared fresh food from elephant grass.
Immediately after receiving information about the powerful cold spell, many people in Xuan Lap Commune (Lam Binh) took the initiative to put their buffaloes and cows in the barn and cover the barn to be airtight. Many households also carefully light a fire near the barn to keep the animals warm. In addition, many families also grow elephant grass to prevent low temperatures to have fresh food for livestock.
Currently, Tuyen Quang Province has over 91,000 buffaloes, over 39,000 cows, over 590,000 pigs and nearly 7 million poultry. In order to proactively prevent and combat hunger and cold, and minimize damage to livestock herds, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has issued many documents directing and guiding localities on proactively preventing and combating hunger and cold for settles.
People need to strengthen disease prevention, periodic cleaning, spraying disinfectants on the barn and the area around the barn; implement deworming and full vaccination for buffaloes and cows according to the guidance of local veterinary authorities and officials to minimize the loss of livestock and poultry in winter.
