A new direction for the local people in Khang Nhat

TQO - Recently, a number of households in Deo Mon Hamlet, Khang Nhat commune, Son Duong District have cooperated with enterprises to pilot the model of growing pumpkin trees for fruit. The model has initially brought positive results, opening a new direction in economic development.

These days, people in  Deo Mon Hamlet harvest pumpkins in a husty and eager manner. Pumpkin prices range from VND2,700 to VND2,900 per kg.

Dinh Thi Nga's family is one of the households that grow many pumpkins in the locality. She said that in previous years, the family's field planted corn, but the yield was not high. At the beginning of 2022, she joined the cooperative to grow pumpkins. After 4 months, her family's pumpkin garden had harvested 8 quintals of pumpkins, with the selling price of VND2,900 VND per kg. Her family earns more than VND8 million from this pumpkin crop.

In 2022, Thanh Dat Cooperative cooperated with Que Huong Farm Co., Ltd. to implement a model of pumpkin growing to supply JW (Korea) frozen fruit and vegetable processing factory. Initially, the implementation of this model only involved one household with an area of more than 1 hectare. However, the actual efficiency from this plant is very high, so up to now, there have been 22 households participating with an area of ​​over 7 hectares.

Each hectare of pumpkin can harvest more than 30 tonnes of fruit, farmers can earn over VND60 million per hectare.

Although the model has just been planted for testing, it has been effective. Compared to growing traditional agricultural crops, growing pumpkin for fruit is 3-4 times more profitable. In the coming time, the locality will continue to cooperate with the company to expand production so that people can participate and get rich legitimately.
