The Red Dao woman preserves the craft of making traditional costumes

TQO - Phung Thi Tam in Noong Cuong Hamlet, Phuc Son Commune, Lam Binh District has still preserved the craft of sewing and embroidering her traditional costumes with sophisticated patterns although she is now 60 years old.

Phung Thi Tam meticulously embroidered motifs on traditional costumes.

Tam shared that the Red Dao women are more beautiful when they are wearing their traditional costumes.

According to Tam, it takes several months for her to embroider a traditional costume of Red Dao women. Embroidery did not bring her wealth, but brought joy in her life. She is happy when young generation is still interested in traditional culture, especially some young people still want to learn embroidery craft.

Last March, she and women in Phuc Son Commune won the first prize at the traditional costume embroidery contest in the Ethnic Culture Festival of Lam Binh district in 2022.

Currently, in Phuc Son Commune, few young people are interested in making traditional costumes. The preservation of traditional costumes of the Red Dao ethnic group like Tam contributes to preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities in the locality.
