With the trend of green consumption, many supermarkets no longer use plastic bags.
One of the important rights of modern consumers is the right to access and choose products that are safe for health and environmentally friendly. This includes many factors. In particular, the factor of safe ingredients requires products that do not contain toxic chemicals, have a clear origin and are verified by reputable organizations. The factor of sustainable production processes requires businesses to use recycled materials, minimize emissions and apply environmentally friendly technology. There are also requirements for environmentally friendly packaging, to minimize plastic waste, use biodegradable or reusable packaging.
However, while the demand for green, clean products is increasing, consumers still face many difficulties and challenges due to lack of transparent information, high product prices and lack of strong support policies.
Many products are labeled “green” but in fact do not meet sustainability standards, causing “greenwashing”. Some beverage brands advertise using recycled plastic bottles but in reality only a very small percentage of plastic is recycled.
On the other hand, organic, environmentally friendly products are often more expensive than conventional products, making many consumers hesitant. Organic vegetables and fruits are 2-3 times more expensive than vegetables and fruits produced by traditional methods, creating barriers for low-income people.
What is more worrying is that although the authorities have regulations on green products, control and enforcement are still not strict. Some businesses still circumvent the law by labeling their products as "organic" without official certification, making it difficult for consumers to choose.
These challenges make consumers worry about the transparency and honesty of environmental commitments of businesses and manufacturers.
Therefore, to ensure consumers' rights in accessing green, clean products, there must be specific, strong and concrete solutions. Authorities and consumer protection organizations need to strengthen control of product quality in the market. In addition to raising consumers' awareness of green consumption, green production businesses also need to be supported through preferential tax policies and funding for sustainable production.
And above all, the State needs to play a leading role, maintaining cooperation between stakeholders to create a more sustainable and fair market.
