"Mat Nha" worshiping ceremony of the Tay people in Chiem Hoa District

TQO - The "Mat Nha" worshiping ceremony of the Tay people in Chiem Hoa District, also known as the bad luck release ceremony. Many families often celebrate this ritual at the beginning of the year.

Before holding the ceremony, the householder invites relatives and neighbours to attend an intimate meal. After that, a handsome young man pick up a shaman to host the ritual.

In the middle of the house, the homeowner spreads some mats on the background to put offerings on there. The offering tray includes boiled chicken, five-color sticky rice, fruit, white wine, salt, rice, votive paper, coloured paper, water bottles and some leaves.

During the ritual, the shaman use a tree branch to sprinkle water on the four directions of the house for disinfection. Then he toss a Yin Yang coin to pray good luck for the householder's family. Next, he  throw white salt, wine, and rice around the house in order to remove the bad things in the past year.

To sum up, the "Mat Nha" worshiping ceremony expresses the sincerity and devotion of the householder to the gods and ancestors and pray for good health, prosperity and bumper crops.
