According to the Tay customs, when people are newborn, they are embraced fully by brocade cradles and baby carriers. When they grow up, they are given brocade hats and brocade clothes by adults. In addition, whenever the bride comes to the husband's house, she waves brocade by herself for her in-law parents to show her heart and all the things in the wedding rooms such as blankets, mattresses, pillows, mosquito-nets are hand-woven.

The main raw material for weaving is cotton. After being harvested, cotton is picked up, dried, and spun. The Tay girls among 13-14 years old had their own fields to grow cotton trees, even they are taught to spin, weave, and sew clothes or blankets by their mothers.

Today, due to the development of the market economy, the cotton cultivation and weaving of the Tay people have felt into oblivion. However, with the efforts of the authorities and people across the localities of Tuyen Quang Province, brocade weaving has been restored. In particularly, many households in highland communes of Lang Can and Khuon Ha (Lam Binh District) have developed brocade weaving in association with tourism development, creating a unique cultural identity as well as attracting a lot of tourists.
