Preserving traditional craft of embroidery amidst Covid-19

TQO - Amidst the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, business activities are more difficult. However, for Ms. Trieu Thi Hai in Tan Quang Hamlet, Hoang Khai Commune, Yen Son District, this is the ideal time to preserve the craft of embroidering traditional costumes of the Red Dao people.

Ms.Trieu Thi Hai sewing traditional costumes of the Red Dao ethnic group.

Most of Dao Do ethnic minority people are immigrants from Na Hang District to Tan Quang Hamlet under the resettlement programme of Tuyen Quang hydropower plant. In order to adapt to the new residence, they not only actively develop their economy but also improve their income from their own traditional profession - the embroidery of Red Dao ethnic costumes.

Therefore, Ms. Hai ordered local people to embroider details of the pattern on the Dao Do costumes. After that, she bought all the embroidery patterns to sew into complete outfits. This way both saves time and increases income for each family.

For each set of clothes, the selling price ranges from VND5 - VND7 million.

Ms. Hai shared that she has not concerned much about economic value from selling these Dao Do ethnic costumes because she wanted to preserve the craft of embroidering traditional costumes of the Red Dao people.
