Tho Binh Commune boosts economic development with peanut cultivation

TQO - Tho Binh Commune has the largest peanut growing area in Lam Binh District, at nearly 300 hectares, with an estimated output of over 2,000 tonnes of fresh peanuts per year.

The commune has formed a concentrated peanut production area with 239 hectares for the spring crop and 50 hectares for the seasonal crop. The economic value from spring crop peanuts has reached VND16 billion - VND17 billion, with about VND4 billion coming from the seasonal crop. Thanks to growing peanuts, local people have gained stable incomes and gradually escaped from poverty.

In order to improve productivity and quality of peanuts, the communal People's Committee has coordinated with the District’s Agricultural Service Centre to open training courses for the locals on planting and caring for peanuts as well as putting peanut variety L14 into production.

Pan Puoc Hamlet is home to 130 households, of which 100 are growing peanuts. The total area of the spring crop reached 18 hectares with total harvested output of nearly 150 tonnes. Farmers earned VND10 million - VND20 million per household from peanuts in the spring crop.

Tho Binh Agro-Forestry Cooperative has purchased more than 500 tonnes of fresh peanuts from its members and farmers at an average price of VND9,500 per kilogramme since the beginning of the year. The cooperative has also arranged production and supported its members and local farmers in input services, technical instructions, and consumption.

This year, the Lam Binh District People's Committee has allocated VND560 million from the capital source for building the commune into a new-style rural area. Accordingly, the linkage development in the chain of peanut production and consumption has been enhanced, contributing to promoting the economic value in peanut production.
