This year, the province has an additional 10,000 hectares of plantation forest that have applied FSC standards. Of which, Ham Yen District has one commune, namely Hung Duc Commune, with an area of over 2,400 hectares meeting FSC standards; and Yen Son District has five communes meeting FSC standards, including Thai Binh with over 397 hectares, Kim Quan with over 1,700 hectares, Trung Son with 1,900 hectares, Tan Long with nearly 2,100 hectares and Tu Quan with over 2,000 hectares.
Forests planted according to FSC standards as conducted by Nguyen Van Hung in Hamlet 9, Tan Long Commune, Yen Son District.
Hung Duc Commune is the first locality in Ham Yen District to apply FSC standards in planting and caring for forests at households and groups of households. The commune is home to over 4,000 hectares of production forest, with more than 1,000 hectares planted by forestry companies and the remainder planted by local farmers according to FSC standards.
Tan Long Commune in Yen Son District also has nearly 2,100 hectares of plantation forests registered as applying FSC standards. Previously, people in the commune mainly grew trees in five to six year cycles, then chopped and sold them to wood processing facilities. Since the end of 2019, after being instructed by commune authorities, the locals have turned to afforestation under the international standards.
The expansion of planted forest areas according to FSC standards has contributed to the effective management and sustainable use of forests and forest land while creating positive impacts on biodiversity conservation, landscape and ecological environment protection.
