TQO - Son Duong District is famous for mountain goat specialties. Goats are raised in many communes of the district, but mostly in Trung Yen Commune.

The mainly food of goats is grass.

Trung Yen Commune has favorable natural conditions for development of goat models. In Trung Yen, goats are raised on rocky mountains, forests of hills instead of garden as in other localities. Local people have raised kinds of small goat with a total weight of 30 kg per goat, but its meat was firm, fresh and delicious.

In addition to buffaloes and cows, the commune identified the development of goat models to be a good direction. Poor households can also raise goats because the breed is not as expensive as buffaloes and cows.

Currently, the total herd of goats in the commune is up to 1,800 goats, concentrated in Hoang Lau, Trung Long, and Khuon Dao hamlets.

Besides the native grass goat breed, many households in the locality are raising hybrid goats with a total weight of 40 kg per mature goat or Thailand goats with a total weight of 70 kg per goat. Fresh goat price ranges from VND140,000 - VND150,000 per kg while goat breed is VND200,000 per kg.

Many families in the commune have escaped poverty thanks to raising goats. Now, the commune authorities is creating favorable conditions for households to access credit loans from banks to develop goat farmings as well as building the mountain goat brand of Trung Yen in order to contribute to increasing incomes for farmers.
