Promoting specialty fish farming in Lam Binh District

TQO - Lam Binh District has 3,569 ha of water available for aquaculture which boasts favourable conditions for local people to raise specialty fish with a high economic value.

The whole district has more than 300 fish cages, including nearly 40 cages of specialty fish. Each specialty fish cage can produce between 2.5 - 3 tonnes of fish for commercial purpose. Lam Binh residents can earn an annual revenue of over VND1 billion from the sale of fish.

Nguyen Van Tung raises specialty fish in Na Hang - Lam Binh ecological lake in Na Tong Hamlet, Thuong Lam Commune.

In addition to raising fish on the lake bed, some local households have also taken advantage of the stream to raise “bong” fish (Spinibarbus) and “anh vu” fish (Semilabeo notabilis). The selling price of “bong” fish, which vary from 2.5 - 3kg, is VND250,000 per kg, contributing to improving the incomes of local people.

To facilitate aquaculture, the District People’s Committee has directed related agencies to devise the planning and construction of concentrated aquaculture areas in order to create a chain connecting production with technical supports and consumption.

In addition, the local agriculture and rural development division in collaboration with the provincial Department of Fisheries regularly inspects the indices of pH, temperature, NH3, H2S, and others to provide instructions to local farmers to ensure the sustainable development of aquaculture in the District.
