Off-season vegetable production model in Na Hang District

TQO - The cultivation of off-season vegetables has initially paid off, enhancing incomes for local farmers in the upland communes of Na Hang District.

Na Hang boasts fertile soil and a cool climate which are favourable conditions for the production of off-season vegetables. Thereby, the provincial agricultural sector has implemented a number of off-season vegetable cultivation models in the locality.

Currently, the provincial Agricultural Promotion Centre has coordinated with the Agricultural Service Centre of Na Hang District to develop an off-season cabbage planting model in Khau Tinh Commune. The selling price of off-season cabbage ranges from VND10,000 to VND15,000 per kg.

The Agricultural Service Cooperative in Khau Tinh Commune is cooperating with 10 local households to grow safe off-season vegetables under VietGAP standards in order to supply to the market. In addition, Tran Vu SAG Co., Ltd has signed a contract to buy off-season vegetable products in the commune for supermarkets in Hanoi.

Hong Thai commune has over 15 ha of vegetable farming in accordance with VietGAP standards, including 2 ha of off-season vegetables. The profit of off-season vegetables reached between VND200 - VND250 million per ha per crop.

In the future, the Agriculture and Rural Development Division of Na Hang District will continue to expand the cultivation of other kinds of vegetables such as cove beans, peas, kohlrabi, and tomatoes, among others.
