Increasing value of Shan Tuyet tea in Na Hang District

TQO - The National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam under the Ministry of Science and Technology has granted recognition of geographical indication register for Shan Tuyet tea in Na Hang District.

Local people in Phia Chang Hamlet, Son Phu Commune, Na Hang District harvesting Shan Tuyet tea.

Na Hang District has a total area of  1.146 hectares of Shan tuyet tea, mostly in the commune of  Sinh Long, Hong Thai, Khau Tinh, Thuong Nong, Thuong Giap, and Son Phu. The entire area of Shan Tuyet tea in the locality planted under 327 Programme and 661 Project has been harvested.

The district authorities have effectively used capital resources to develop and increase the efficiency from production, processing and quality improvement of tea product.

Viet Dung Company Limited, Kia Tang Mountain Tea Joint Stock Company, along with 3 cooperatives, 2 groups and 15 households in Na Hang District have invested in tea processing and production. The tea material area for processing facilities is over 300 hectares. The average price of fresh tea buds in the locality is estimated at VND20,000 - VND30,000 per kilogramme, contributing to increase income for many tea growers.

Since 2019, Son Tra Cooperative has bought tea material from members in the cooperative and local households to process and sell nearly 10 tonnes of tea product, with a turnover of more than VND2 billion.

Currently, Shan Tuyet Na Hang tea has become one of the OCOP product meeting four-star standard of Tuyen Quang Province.
