Nguyen Manh Thang's family in Trung Long Hamlet, Trung Yen Commune, Son Duong District harvesting organic tea.
Tuyen Quang Province has 21 hectares of organic tea, 33 hectares of organic oranges and 57 hectares of organic grapefruit. This is the foundation for making the transition to organic agriculture.
Many households in the province have applied organic farming to improve the value of products along with environmental protection, including Phong Luu service cooperative (Ham Yen District), Quynh Nhi commercial production cooperative, Tan Tao Chicken Cooperative Group (Tuyen Quang City), Dong Tien Cooperative (Lam Binh District), and Pa Then Tea Cooperative (Chiem Hoa District).
In 2019, Son Duong District selected 3 hectares of 7-year-old tea of Ngan Son Trung Long cooperative in Trung Yen Commune to develop the organic production model. After 2 years, the tea growing area has been certified for organic production. With the plant of tea under the organic process, the yield is reduced by 30% compared to tea growing according to VietGAP standards, but the quality of tea is more improved with the selling price of 500,000 - 600,000 VND per kilogramme.
Son Tra cooperative has more than 24 hectares of Na Hang Shan Tuyet tea which has been certified for organic production. The cooperative processes and sells nearly 10 tonnes of finished tea to the market each year, with a turnover of more than VND2 billion.
Currently, the Provincial Agriculture Department is supporting farmers, cooperative groups and cooperatives to convert to organic farming to increase the value of agricultural products in the province.
