Facilitating black pig farming in Chiem Hoa District

TQO - Over recent years, Chiem Hoa District has been accelerating black pig farming in upland communes, contributing to poverty reduction and raising incomes for local people.

Black pig farming is mainly concentrated in Chiem Hoa’s highland communes, including Minh Quang, Phuc Son, Hung My, Tan My and Kien Dai. Currently, the district’s total black pig herd is estimated at approximately 10,000 pigs.

Developing the farming of indigenous black pigs suits weather conditions in the locality. Black hogs have good tolerance to cold weather and diseases. In addition, the high pork quality has made them a favourite of customers.

Differing from pig grazing in the past, by participating in training courses, people in Chiem Hoa have now built barns and cleaned them, as well as fully vaccinating their pig herds. The price of live black pig currently ranges between VND100,000 - VND150,000 per kilogramme.

In order to develop black pig farming into a commercial product that brings a high income to farmers, the district continues to encourage people to ensure the hygiene of barns, prevent and control African swine fever, and increase their pig herds to raise economic efficiency.
