The plantation forest meeting the FSC standards across the province is developing rapidly. The growth of 5-year-old acacia forest is equivalent to the 7-year-old acacia forest which is planted in the normal methods. The total volume of exploited wood increases from 10 -15%.
Local people in Trung Son Hamlet, Tan My Commune, Chiem Hoa District taking care of the 5-year-old acacia forest meeting FSC standards.
Chiem Hoa District has 6,480.7 hectares of forest registered under FSC standards. Of which, more than 5,514 hectares of forests belonging to Chiem Hoa Forestry Company Limited have applied FSC standards since 2016. The remaining is 966.7 hectares of forest owned by local people in the communes of Tan My and Hung My, were granted FSC certificates in 2018.
Da Nang Hamlet, Tu Thinh Commune possesses more than 189 hectares of production forest area which are divided into 3 household groups, ranging from 30-40 households each group. The group leader (forest owner) is responsible for instructing the group members on the techniques of planting and caring for forests as well as monitoring the afforestation under the FSC standards.
To sum up, sustainable forest management according to FSC standards contributes to improving local people's incomes and boost socio-economic development.
