Green tourism

TQO - Since December 2019, the Government has issued Decision No. 1746/QD-TTg on the promulgation of the Action Plan on ocean plastic waste management to 2030.

The target from 2025 - 2030: reduce 80% - 100% of plastic waste in coastal tourist and service areas, do not use disposable plastic products and hard-to-decompose plastic bags; 80% - 100% of marine protected areas are free of plastic waste.

In recent times, the Vietnam Tourism Association has also actively and proactively launched environmental protection initiatives, deployed to tourism businesses nationwide.

The Vietnam Tourism Association has also researched, completed and issued a set of criteria for recognizing plastic waste-free tourism businesses in Vietnam.

This set of criteria will be widely consulted with tourism associations, tourism businesses and local tourism management agencies for completion and early implementation.

Accordingly, the main goal is to strive for 100% of tourist areas, accommodation facilities and hotels to not use non-degradable plastic bags and single-use plastic products by 2025.

With the active participation of the tourism industry, businesses and tourist destinations will contribute to raising awareness among people and tourists in reducing plastic waste, protecting the environment and landscape, and developing green and sustainable tourism.
