'Vat vai' - this name comes from the fact that the cake can be hang on shoulder and enjoyed at any time.
The ingredients to make 'vat vai' cake are very simple: glutinous rice, mung beans and mugwort.
Mugwort is boiled with lime water to reduce the acrid and bitter taste, then ground into small pieces and mixed with glutinous rice flour.
This mixture is rolled into balls and then filled with ground mung bean.
The cakes is wrapped with fresh banana leaves and steamed during 2 hours.
When enjoying the cakes, you can taste the aroma of the ground mung bean, mugwort as well as a soft and sticky texture in each bite.
