Unique costume of San Chi ethnic people in Na Hang District

TQO - The traditional costumes of San Chi ethnic minority people in Thuong Nong Commune, Na Hang District are always rustic and simple but contain their own unique features.

Pac Cung Hamlet in Thuong Nong Commune has 45 households, of which the San Chi ethnic minority group accounts for over 80%. In the past, the San Chi people immigrated from Vi Xuyen District, Ha Giang Province to the locality for economic development and to uphold their own cultural identity. In particular, they have still preserved the outstanding features of their traditional costume.

San Chi women often dress in ankle-length indigo skirts and pairs of shirts: They choose their inner shirt in accordance with their own preferred style and colour, usually bright colours; meanwhile, the outer is a two-piece dress sewn diagonally to the right. Upon wearing their traditional clothes, the San Chi people have to roll their hair as well as wear a black scarf, silver necklaces and bracelets.

Men's outfits are simpler but show their strength with indigo blouses sewn in the style of a ba ba (the traditional shirt of the southern people) with two large pockets. Their long pants are designed with a waistband and wide legs.

The San Chi ethnic people wear their traditional clothes during important holidays, aiming to preserve their cultural identity.
