There has been a shift from traditional entertainment to online entertainment, leading to the increase of online movie viewing services on digital platforms such as Netflix, Youtube, FPT Play, VTV Go, K-plus, etc. Audiences only need a smartphone or tablet with high-speed Internet connection to be able to watch movies anywhere, under any conditions.
However, the release of movies on digital platforms also makes the situation of copyright infringement alarming. There have been serious copyright infringement cases, causing great losses to filmmakers, affecting the competitive environment in the integration process of Vietnamese cinema.
Notably, the situation of reviewing movies and sharing them as short videos on Youtube or Facebook watch, TikTok for the purpose of making money is also a copyright infringement that is quite common and has not been prevented. Through movie reviews on social platforms, viewers only need to watch these short clips to understand the main content of the movie, which is no longer attractive enough for viewers to spend money to watch the entire movie. This causes great harm to the interests of the film production unit.
Although copyright infringement is still common, handling it is still quite difficult. Most producers and filmmakers still mainly call for respect from the audience or post it in the press and social networks.
Therefore, when releasing movies on digital platforms today, along with the optimal aspects it brings, it is also necessary to go hand in hand with protecting the copyright of movies.
