The province has focused on developing orange farming – the leading key crop in local agricultural production. Accordingly, the province has planned the orange growing areas; transferred technologies and procedures for orange cultivation under VietGAP standards; and supported brand development and trade promotion for the product.
Local farmers in Phuc Son Commune, Chiem Hoa District, growing peanuts for export, earning over VND100 million per hectare each year.
The farming area for King oranges in Ham Yen District has reached 7,200 hectares, an increase of over 2,000 hectares compared to 2015. The district has over 700 hectares of oranges being cultivated under VietGAP and organic standards.
In addition, some other key crops including grapefruit, planted forests and tea have also been promoted. In the past three years, the province has supported the supply of acacia hybrid breeds and imported acacia seeds to plant over 3,000 hectares of high-quality forest across the province.There are about 180,000 hectares of production forests, 8,500 hectares of tea, 8,600 hectares of oranges, more than 5,000 hectares of pomelo, and 4,500 hectares of peanuts in Tuyen Quang, generating an average annual value of VND96 million per hectare.
