Currently, the province has 422,472 ha of forested land. In which, natural forest accounts for 233,205 ha and 189,267 ha. The province’s forest coverage rate is at 65%, making it one of the vastest forested areas in the country. Due to the lack in personnel, the FPD has determined to continually coordinate closely with other forces and with local authorities to carry out well the public awareness campaigns to each citizen so that they voluntarily plant forests.
Son Nam Ranger Station (Son Duong) officials mobilise local people to protect forests in association with forestation.
Since 2017, the sector has conducted over 3,000 legal communication campaigns on forest protection and development for over 207,000 people, while opening 77 symposiums on the work in forested communes with 5,261 participants. In addition, the sector has also engaged in mobilising households to sign commitments with the village heads, the village heads signing commitments with the commune chairpersons and students signing commitments with their schools on forest protection and development. The province mainly replants forests after exploiting, since all forest land without forests has been afforested in previous years. In 2019, the province has planted 11,741 ha, reaching 108.2% of the set plan.
Thanks to an excellent network and communication, Chiem Hoa District FPD has continuously achieved and exceeded the set plan on afforestation. Mr. Kim Ngoc Tuyen, Head of Chiem Hoa District FPD, said that his unit has just coordinated with the relevant authorities to organise a public information conference on forest protection and development in commune level and has sent rangers in charge to come to each village to open hamlet-level conferences on forest protection and development. The planting plan was soon spread by the service to forest rangers, officials and other staff. The reviewing and gathering of statistics on the number of exploited land areas capable of afforestation among people has been actively carried out. Along with mobilising people to plant forests, forest rangers also come to each plot to guide local people to plant forests strictly according to the technical process. In 2019, the district FPD has mobilised local people to plant 1,859 ha of forest, reaching 126.4% of the set plan.
Son Duong district FPD in recent years has always completed and exceeded the planting plan. Implementing the set plan in 2019, up to now, the district has planted 1,390.76/1,335 ha of forest, reaching 104% of the set plan for new planted forest invested by the local people themselves. In addition, the service has also mobilised the people to register planting 62.3 ha of forest with seeds supported in accordance with Resolution No. 03/2017/NQ-HĐND of the Provincial People's Council in 2020. Mr. Le Hong Long, Head of the Son Duong District FPD, said that forest rangers and officials have always closely grasped the situation in the areas they are in charge of and the area of forest land after each household had been exploited to mobilise afforestation right after harvesting.
In addition to doing well the communication work in mobilising people to plant forests and improving their lives, the province’s FPD also cooperates closely with other functional agencies and local authorities to promptly and effectively implement the province’s support policies for local people in planting forests in order to raise the local economic value from forests. After two years of implementing the Resolution No. 03 by the Provincial People's Council on supporting high quality forestry seedlings during 2018-2021 and Resolution No. 09 also by the Provincial People's Council on amending and supplementing a number of contents of the Resolution No. 12/2014 of the Provincial People's Council on mechanisms and policies to support the production for a number of plants and livestock, up to now, the whole province has supported 1,455 households in planting over 2,062 ha of forest with high quality seedlings.
The officials of Phuc Son Forest Protection Station (Chiem Hoa) locate forest patrol routes.
The province’s FPD has reviewed and mobilised the local people to introduce healthy forestry tree varieties, while cancelling those of poor quality. Up to now, the province has no seedlings selected from average quality forest without silvicultural intervention, but 100% of its prime seedling gardens have been planted via tissue culture. Protection of forest afforestation is always a concern for the province’s FPD to ensure that the watershed protection areas in the upper rivers and streams have been protected by forests. From 2017 to date, the whole province has planted 306.29 ha of protection forests. Of which, 175,39 ha has been planted with capital sourced from the State budget, 100.9 ha from the local people’s investment and 30 ha from local enterprises’ capital.
The objectives in the Resolution of the 16th Provincial Party Congress set out that by 2020, the province will plant up to 54,750 ha of forest. So far, Tuyen Quang has planted 47,158 ha, reaching over 86% of the target plan set by the Resolution.
