After many failures in business, Mr. Dien and his family were determined to plant trees, build ponds, and prepare well the facilities to raise black snails because he realised the the development of black snail farming movement in the commune is being promoted.
His black snail farm in hamlet 1, Trung Mon Commune.
Initially, he came to visit and learn about the black snail farming model of Mr. Pham Van Chung, a his cousin who invested in raising black snails in the commune. Thanks to Mr. Chung's seed supply and farming technology transfer, he gained the basic knowledge of raising snails.
Now, he is well-known for having the largest scale of black snail farming in the locality. While selling snails and snails for meat, he also directly instruct local farmers the science and technology application in snail farming. He believes that in order to be successful in agricultural production, farmers in the modern life should seize the opportunity, acquire knowledge of science and technology as well as product consumption market.
Mr. Dien's family only focuses on investing in 6 ponds for raising black snails with suitable water heights such as 0.5m, 1m and 1.5. The clean water sources in his pond system comes from Cau Giang stream.
The food for black snail is green vegetables, water hyacinth, moss, cereals and pumpkin. The amount of food is adjusted by him according to the snail's ability to eat, about 0.5 - 1% of the snail weight in the pond.
The selling price of black snails for meat is at VND80,000 - VND100,000 per kg, while the price of parent snails is VND250,000 - VND300,000 per kg and snail breeding price is at VND160,000 per snail.
In 2020, he earned VND100 million from selling black snails. Most of his family's snails are sold to restaurants, hotels and some facilities of processing stuffed snail in bamboo tubes.
