Developing the Luc Truc bamboo growing model

TQO - Veteran Ngo Ngoc Thanh, village 4, Lang Bat, Tan Thanh commune (Ham Yen) has pioneered in bringing Luc Truc bamboo (a bamboo variety originating from Taiwan) to grow locally, opening up a new direction of development with great potential.

Mr. Thanh (on the left) introduces and guides villagers on techniques for growing and caring for Luc Truc bamboo.

Compared to growing fruit trees, growing bamboo for shoots provides a stable income because consumer demand is quite high. In addition, the investment capital and care are easy to learn, and farmers can easily implement.

Currently, Mr. Thanh's family harvests 25kg to 40kg of bamboo shoots every day with the selling price of VND25,000 to VND35,000 per kg.

Luc Truc bamboo shoots are completely clean and fragrant, crispy, delicious, and slightly sweet. Thanks to growing bamboo, his family has a stable income and earns over VND100 million per year.

In addition, Thanh has campaigned to establish the Luc Truc Tan Thanh Bamboo Shoots Cooperative with 9 members both inside and outside the commune.

The members are united, regularly exchange and share experiences to support each other in terms of capital, planting techniques, care, and expansion of the Luc Truc bamboo growing area in the locality.

The Cooperative has also planned to build a product brand; provide technical support, supply quality seedlings to expand production scale towards commodities and sustainable development.

The Cooperative will gradually complete preliminary processing and packaging processes to ensure food safety as well as play the role of a focal point, expand the consumption market of Luc Truc bamboo shoots for members.
