Buddha's hand harvesting season in Yen Phu

TQO - As the Lunar New Year of At Ty 2025 approaches, Buddha's hand gardeners in Yen Phu commune (Ham Yen) are busy harvesting the biggest crop of the year to serve the needs of the people.

Mr. Vu Ngoc Quang, Minh Phu village 3, trims and harvests his family's Buddha's hand garden to serve the Tet market.

Buddha's hand is harvested year-round, but the Tet season is the most important because of high demand and increased prices. Therefore, these days, Buddha's hand gardeners in Yen Phu commune are preparing large output to supply the market.

Buddha's hand is considered a billion-dollar tree by the people of Yen Phu commune because the profits are higher than many other crops. If well cared for, on average, each Buddha's hand tree produces 50 - 70 fruits. During the Lunar New Year, many gardeners in Yen Phu commune earn hundreds of millions, even billions of VND.

Mr. Mac Dong Phong, Head of Minh Phu Village 4, said: “The village has 90 households with 367 people, over 90% of which are quite rich with clean and beautiful houses, there are no poor households in the village. Buddha's hand has helped farmers here change their lives, during Tet, many households have had revenue of tens of millions to hundreds of millions, some households have reached billions each year”.

Buddha's hand has a fairly high economic value but also requires a lot of care. People have to calculate the time to take care of and prune the tree, so that the tree flowers and bears fruit at the right time.

In addition to growing Buddha's hand to sell fruit, in Yen Phu there are also many households growing Buddha's hand bonsai to serve those who like to play with ornamental plants.

Comrade Vu Van Sy, Chairman of Yen Phu Commune People's Committee said: “Currently, the commune has 50 - 60 hectares of Buddha's hand. Near Tet, the demand from buyers increases, so Yen Phu people also have to increase production, hire more workers to keep up with the supply, so the price of the product also increases. For Yen Phu farmers, they save all the biggest and most beautiful Buddha's hand fruits to supply to customers at the end of the year.
