The natural forest area is 281,700 hectares. The forest coverage rate reaches more than 65%, ranking third in the country.
With a diverse forest ecosystem, the province has over 2,000 species of animals and plants. Many of them are listed in the Vietnam Red Book and the World Red Book such as fagraea fragrans, chittagong wood, aquilaria crassna, snub-nosed monkey, trachypithecus francoisi, rhesus monkey, cobra, etc. Each primary forests in the districts of Na Hang, Lam Binh, Ham Yen, and Son Duong all have their own characteristics and ecotourism potential.
Son Duong has 3,100 hectares of special-use forest, concentrated on the area of ATK communes. Thanks to the good patrolling and protection work, combined with the communication about the meaning and importance of special-use forest, many households have voluntarily signed a commitment to protect forest.
Lam Binh District has implemented lots of solutions to manage and protect the forest, especially, basing on local people to save forest. Every year, the Forest Protection Division in Lam Binh organizes forest protection signing contracts with more than 700 households participating. Accordingly, groups of households have been strengthened and promoted the roles and responsibilities of the community to protect forests. Therefore, forest law violations have decreased. There are almost no forest fires. The district's forest coverage rate is quite large, up to nearly 78%.
In recent years, the province has exploited the local potential to develop eco-tourism with tour routes, experience primeval forests, lake bed tours, cave explorations, etc.
