Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Xuan Lap Commune (Lam Binh District) Chuc Thi Xuan proudly talks about the art of the traditional costume decoration of the Red Dao ethnic group. She said that the beauty of that costume comes not only from its eye-catching colours but also its various patterns such as plants, animals, etc. Normally, most of the Red Dao women in the commune know how to embroider. That shows their industriousness, ingenuity, and imaginativeness.
For the Red Dao ethnic group in Minh Huong Commune (Ham Yen District), the way to decoration on their costumes is also different from those of the Red Dao people in the communes of Son Phu and Da Vi (Na Hang District) or Xuan Lap Commune (Lam Binh District). They still decorate patterns that simulates the beauty of nature, but these motifs are sparse and spreads the entire of headgear evenly. In contrast, the Red Dao people in Na Hang District usually focus on embroidering the front part of headgear with dense and intertwined patterns.
