Minh Huong Bau duck

TQO - Minh Huong Bau duck is a long-standing indigenous variety of duck in Minh Huong Commune, Ham Yen District.

The indigenous ducks have several distinct characteristics compared to their peers, such as a round-shaped body and short neck. Due to their habit of swimming, they have short legs with wide webbed feet adapted to their watery environment. Adult ducks usually weigh between 1.8 and 2.2 kilogrammes.

As the local ducks have been raised by Cham Chu Stream combined with a natural diet, their delicious meat has a distinct fragrance. Bau duck meat can be processed by boiling, roasting, steaming, or frying with salt.

In particular, steamed Bau duck with sticky rice is considered a traditional dish of the local people.

In 2016, the National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam’s recognition of the Minh Huong Bau duck brand has helped to open opportunities for local breeders to get rich from the indigenous duck.
