H'mong women in Le Hamlet preserve the sewing craft

TQO - H'mong women in Le Hamlet, Hung Loi Commune, Yen Son District have still preserved and promoted the craft of sewing traditional Mong ethnic costumes amidst the bustling life.

Ma Thi Mai in Le Hamlet, Hung Loi Commune, Yen Son District is teaching a H'mong woman to sew traditional costumes.

Le Hamlet has 157 households with 720 people, of which the H'mong ethnic people account for nearly 60%. Currently, the hamlet has 5-10 H'mong women have kept the craft of making traditional costumes.

Ly Thi Xoan in Le Hamlet shared that, as a Mong girl, she must know how to embroider and sew. Her daughter also loves to learn to sew, so she spends time every day teaching her child. Right from the stage of fabric selection, pattern design, she has always devoted herself to instructed her daughter.

In recent years, the H'mong people in the locality have made and sold their traditional costumes at markets. Thanks to that, this item has also become a commodity, attracting a lot of buyers.

"Each costume of H'mong people is quite expensive, ranging from VND500,000 to VND2 million. Therefore, from making traditional costumes, it has created a stable income for many families.", Ly Thi Xi, a person who specializes in sewing H'mong costumes said.

Young people in Le Hamlet, Hung Loi Commune, Yen Son District choose their traditional costumes.

On average, each sewing household in the hamlet has an income of about VND20-VND25 million per year.

Chair woman of the Women's Union of Hung Loi Commune Luong Thi Mung said that the sewing costume craft of H'mong women is actively propagated by the Commune Women's Union to raise awareness, maintain and preserve the traditional craft with its distinctive cultural features.

The Commune Women's Union also established groups of sewing for women to pass on the craft to the younger generation, aiming to make the garment making of the H'mong ethnic people as a local tourism product associated with the preservation of their cultural beauties.
