Cao Lan people in Dong Quan Hamlet, Thang Quan Commune, Yen Son District preserve Sinh Ca singing.
Referring to the Cao Lan ethnic group, people immediately remember the Sinh Ca singing, which was recognised as a national intangible cultural heritage. Basically, Sing Ca singing includes genres: New Year's songs, wedding singing, lullaby, production and new life building songs, etc. Thanks to these folk songs, the Cao Lan people give their thoughts and feelings to each other as well as their aspirations for a prosperous and happiness life. In addition, they also create new folk songs to reflect their lives and praise the Party, State and Uncle Ho.
Along with Sinh Ca singing, the Cao Lan people in Tuyen Quang have still preserved many traditional dances such as con dance, shrimp shoveling dance, etc. These dances reflect the process of daily labour and production of local people and they are not limited in number or age and gender of participants. Therefore, every dance creates joy, excitement and attracts a large number of performers.
The unique cultural identity of the Cao Lan people is also showed in their traditional costumes. Cao Lan men's clothing is usually indigo or black. The costumes of Cao Lan women is ao dai with colours of red, brown and indigo. The patterns on their costumes have many patterns, including flowers, hexagonal shapes, etc.
In order to preserve the national cultural identity, the Cao Lan people in the communes of Tuyen Quang have established cultural and art clubs. They not only perform on holidays and Tet, members of these clubs also teach folk songs and dances as well as the craft of making traditional costumes for young generation.
