Raising goats at the foot of Sang Mountain

TQO - Goat raising has brought economic efficiency for local people in Dung Giao Hamlet, Dai Phu Commune, Son Duong District.

Dung Giao Hamlet, Dai Phu Commune is located at the foot of Sang Mountain where has favorable conditions for developing goat farming. In particular, households in the locality have long-standing experience in raising goats.

The goats are naturally grazed, so the meat is delicious.

To support local economic development based on natural strengths and production practices, Good Neighbors International (GNI) has supported the establishment and operation of the Goat Farming Group (now the Son Duong Goat Breeding Cooperative) since 2015. After more than 6 years, with the determination and efforts of its members, goat farming has become a livelihood activity bringing the main source of income for the locals.

Currently, the cooperative has 7 goat farming households with a scale of more than 500 heads. The selling price of breeding goats is VND120,000 per kg while meat goats VND150,000 per kg. The average income of each member is about VND100 million - VND250 million per year.

Goat products of the cooperative are consumed both inside and outside the province such as Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen and Hanoi.

In the coming time, the People's Committee of Dai Phu Commune will coordinate with the cooperative to instruct local people to raise livestock under VietGAP standards to ensure the quality of goat meat, building a brand of Son Duong goat meat product as an OCOP product.
