The 5-year-old forest of Tran Kim Cuong's family in Dong Ninh village, Dong Tho commune (Son Duong).
Dong Tho commune is home to 7 ethnic groups, mainly Cao Lan, Nung, H’mong and Tay. They develop economic by afforestation.
The commune currently has over 2,800 hectares of forest, including over 146 hectares of natural forest and over 2700 hectares of planted forest.
There are more than 703 hectares of planted production forests that have been granted the FSC certificate of sustainable forest management.
Dong Tho is covered with a green color of the forest.
On average, Dong Tho commune grows over 100 hectares of forest each year, with over 1,800 households engaged in forestry production with the average income is from VND120 million to VND150 million per hectare per cycle of afforestation (6- 7 years).
Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Tho Commune Au Van Ta, said that the forest economy has helped many households in the locality escape poverty. At the beginning of 2022, the poverty rate of the commune was 44%, now it has decreased to 39%.
