Tran Van Thinh in Cay Co Commune is a pioneer in planting red flesh dragon trees in the locality. This dragon fruit variety has a deep red colour, thin skin, and sweet taste and produces more fruits. Since 2018, his family has harvested 17-20 tonnes of fruit per crop with the selling price from VND15,000 to VND27,000 per kg, earning over VND170 million each year.

Son Nam Commune currently has more than 13 hectares of dragon fruit, mostly in Cay Co Hamlet. Realising the development of dragon fruit trees can support local people step by step to increase their incomes, the commune has cooperated with specialised units of Son Duong District to provide technical guidance for farmers to plant and take care of dragon fruit trees according to organic production standards.

In 2021, Hung Thinh Cooperative was established in the commune, with 7 members participating in growing dragon fruit. It members have the opportunity to gain knowledge of dragon fruit tree planting and associate with factories in product consumption.
