A local people buying his chopstick products.
His products are made of 'vien' bamboo. He said that 'vien' bamboo in Phuc Thinh Commune is not much, mostly in An Quynh Hamlet. The characteristic of this kind of bamboo is that the body is as small as the ankle, but the flesh is full. Each 'vien' bamboo tree can only get 3 internodes under the root, generating 20-25 pairs of chopsticks.
According to Tay custom, chopsticks must be about 30cm length. With a pair of long chopsticks, the eater can control the food picking in spite of long distance from the tray.
Currently, he has produced two types of chopsticks, including square and round chopsticks. Whether it is square or round, the tip of the food picker is always tapered.
To ensure the quality of products, all chopsticks are handmade by his family. After sharpening the chopsticks, he used fine sandpapers to polish the chopsticks, then left them to dry under the sun for a week. Next, these chopsticks will be dyed into red colour by being soaked in boiling mixture of magenta plant, cowa fruit and sour-soup creeper leaf.
Each 10 pairs of chopsticks, he belts into a bundle with the selling price is VND30,000 per bundle.
The traditional chopstick making has helped him earn extra income amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. In August, he sold nearly 2,000 pairs of chopsticks. His products have been consumed both inside and outside the province, contributing to promoting the traditional chopsticks of the Tay people in Chiem Hoa District.
