Na Hang focuses on fisheries development towards safety

TQO - The natural conditions in Na Hang Town in the District of the same name are favourable for locals to develop fisheries in a safe manner, raising the economic value and improving their annual incomes.

Currently, Na Hang Town has now 2 companies and 60 households raising fish in the lake bed, with a total of over 400 fish cages. They have created jobs for nearly 500 locals.

The total fishing output is estimated at over 300 tonnes per year. Accordingly, between 5 percent and 10 percent of aquaculture households earn an annual income of VND300 million in profit from breeding fish in cages.

The district authorities have focused on planning fishing areas in Mo Waterfall and the wharf with an area of more than 300 hectares, creating favourable conditions for locals to develop aquaculture model.

The biggest advantage for aquaculture in Na Hang is clean natural water and an abundance of food sources. Thus, the farmers use very little industrial food.

To date, some aquaculture facilities in Na Hang have been granted VietGAP certificates. They supply on average between 120 tonnes and 150 tonnes of specialty fish per year, creating stable jobs for labourers with a monthly income of over VND4 million per person.

The People’s Committee of Na Hang Town is completing a dossier for selecting specialty fish products into the “One Commune, One Product” (OCOP) programme to increase their values.
