Pham Van Nguyen in Hung Long Hamlet, Thanh Long Commune, Ham Yen District has a high income from growing tomatoes.
The hamet has 116 households with nearly 500 people. In recent years, Hung Long Hamlet has always exceeded the target of afforestation. The total forest area of the locality increased to 65 hectares, with an average of 0.5 hectares of forest per household.
In addition, the hamlet have guided people to apply advanced techniques of cultivation. Thanks to good propaganda and mobilization, households possessing flooded fertile land have switched to growing tomatoes, cucumbers, and squash, ect.
Local people have also focused on developing livestock and poultry raising to ensure environmental sanitation and limit disease. The village always maintains nearly 70 buffaloes and cows; nearly 200 pigs and thousands of poultry.
Especially, at the end of 2019, Thanh Long Tomato Cooperative was established with 13 members who are all members of Hung Long rural farmers. Each winter crop, the cooperative members grow from 2.7 to 3 hectares of tomatoes. On average, they earrn VND10 - VND40 million from each tomato crop.
Thanks to economic development, the poverty rate in the hamlet has been reduced from 47% (in 2016) to 16%. Since 2016, local people have contributed money, donated land and nearly 2 km of concrete rural roads, opening 1,500 m new road to the production area, building 1 overflow bridge and a spacious culture house. The locality has effectively maintained the self-governing model of security and order.
