Duplicating effective agricultural extension projects

TQO - Many provincial agricultural extension projects have been implemented to change the locals’ mindsets on production and also increase their income. Currently, such agricultural projects and models have been widely duplicated in the communes of Tuyen Quang Province.

Thai Binh Commune in Yen Son District is known as a famous longan-growing area in the province. In 2018, the Provincial Agriculture Extension Centre launched a project on grafting longan trees, which aimed to rejuvenate old and low yielding longan trees while shortening the growing season. The project was implemented across 2,000 trees for the 2018 – 2019 period.

Animal breeding projects have also been expanded in recent years. Prominent among them include a chicken breeding project in Thai Binh Commune and a black sow breeding project in Trung Son and Phu Thinh Communes in Yen Son District.

In 2019, nine households in Trung Son and Phu Thinh Communes were provided with 90 breeding pigs, each receiving 10 pigs, sourced from the National Agriculture Extension Centre. All of the pigs then produced their first litter of piglets. Realising the project’s effectiveness, the Provincial Agriculture Extension Centre has expanded the project to 12 other households, with each of them being supplied three breeding pigs.

In 2020, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Centre is scheduled to continue selecting effective projects and expanding them to a larger scale.
