Dried longan making in Vinh Quang Commune

TQO - Longan is a typical product of Vinh Quang Commune Chiem Hoa. Vinh Quang longan is also processed into dried longan by local people to improve this product value.

After being separated, the aril of longan will be put into the drying oven.

Longan is harvested by farmers in Vinh Quang Commune from the end of June and early July of the lunar calendar in order to make dried longan. The traditional craft making dried longan has been in Vinh Quang Commune since the 1980s when people from Hung Yen Province followed the State's call to build a new economic zone and brought specialty varieties of longan to plant in Tuyen Quang Province.

To improve the value of longan products, local people use dried longan making methods of their countryside. After more than 30 years, the making dried longan has not faced the risk of disappearing but also developed throughout the commune. Therefore, every ripen longan season, the elderly and children from all over the villages in the locality harvest longan to earn extra income.

Vinh Quang Commune possesses 51 dried longan processing facilities. On average, each establishment creates jobs for 20 - 30 local workers. Currently, the commune has 161.3 hectares of longan, the local authorities are encouraging people to expand the longan growing area.

Normally, every 1 quintal of fresh longan will make more than 10 kg of dried longan. The average dried longan selling price is estimated at VND120,000 - VND140,000 per kg.

Longan products have been selected in the brand building roadmap by Vinh Quang Commune People's Committee under the "One commune, one product" programme for the period 2022 - 2023.
