The San Chi people of Thuong Nong commune harvest Shan Tuyet tea.
The tea is concentrated in Dong Da 1, Dong Da 2, Pac Cung, Thom Luong, and Ban Khoan villages.
The tea trees here used to grow naturally in the primeval forest, many of which are estimated to be several hundred years old.
Later, many generations of Thuong Nong people have propagated and planted Shan Tuyet tea trees into solid protective forests and have become an indispensable traditional drink in every family.
Shan Tuyet tea trees often have large, tall trunks, plump tea buds, and the tea leaves are covered with a layer of fine white hairs.
Thuong Nong is also a commune included in the project to develop specialty tea trees in the district for the period 2021 - 2025, with a vision to 2030, and has been granted a general registration certificate for the geographical indication of Na Hang Shan Tuyet tea products.
Currently, the price of fresh Shan Tuyet tea in the area is being purchased by manual tea roasters at VND25,000 per kg, 5 times higher than that of normal tea.
Because the value of Shan Tuyet tea trees is increasing, in 2023, the whole commune expanded by 10 hectares and will continue to expand in the coming time.
